Philip S. Vasan

Philip S. Vasan is a managing director of Credit Suisse and head of Private Banking for the Americas, based in New York. He is a member of the Private Banking & Wealth Management division’s Management Committees in New York and Zurich. Since joining the bank in 1992, Dr. Vasan has held a range of global leadership positions for Credit Suisse. Prior to his current post, he developed and led for ten years the bank’s market-leading Prime Services franchise. He has also served as head of Global Foreign Exchange and worldwide head of Equity Derivatives and Convertibles. Dr. Vasan has directed both the bank’s e-commerce investments and cost reduction efforts, and has co-chaired the bank’s Managing Director Evaluation Committee. Before joining Credit Suisse, Dr. Vasan ran Citibank’s FX options business in the US after trading interest rate derivatives there. 

Dr. Vasan received his B.A. with High Honors from Oberlin College and his Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University, where he was named top graduate instructor in the University. He has authored a text on Options used to train Credit Suisse staff and clients, and has served as a visiting lecturer in Finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Dr. Vasan is a member of the Board of Trustees of Oberlin College and previously served on the Board of Directors of the Managed Funds Association.
