David Lourie serves as MFA’s Vice President and Senior Counsel, Regulatory Affairs.

David has extensive experience working in the alternative investment industry.  Notably, David served as the Chief Compliance Officer at private equity firm Cressey & Company, where he was responsible for all regulatory matters and oversaw and grew the firm’s legal and compliance program as the firm tripled in size.  Further, David has extensive experience building Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) and Diversity and Inclusion (“D&I”) programs.  At Cressey, David oversaw ESG and D&I across the firm and its portfolio companies and helped the firm to successfully sign the U.N. Principles for Responsible Investment (“PRI”).

Most recently, David worked closely on ESG issues at General Atlantic, a global alternative asset firm. David also worked at Ascendant Compliance Management, where he consulted on regulatory issues for over 100 clients that included hedge funds, private equity firms, and investment advisers across the country.  He spent significant time educating clients on regulatory issues and often served as a speaker at industry conferences and on panels and webinars.

David also teaches Organizational Risk Management as an adjunct professor at Northwestern University.  He holds a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and a law degree from the University of Southern California.
