On April 1, MFA and AIMA submitted a joint comment letter in response to IOSCO’s consultation paper on sustainable finance (ESG) in emerging markets and the role of securities regulators. The comment letter encouraged IOSCO to tailor its recommendations on incorporating ESG into national securities laws to by recommending: (1) any regulations on incorporating ESG factors into securities laws should focus on creating an investor driven approach and should not apply ESG requirements on a universal basis, but only when relevant; and (2) regulators should consider rules designed to ensure better quality and more consistent ESG data from issuers.
