Position Title: Deputy Chief Operating Officer

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Company Background: Managed Funds Association (MFA), based in Washington, DC, New York, Brussels, and London, represents the global alternative asset management industry. MFA’s mission is to advance the ability of alternative asset managers to raise capital, invest, and generate returns for their beneficiaries. MFA advocates on behalf of its membership and convenes stakeholders to address global regulatory, operational, and business issues. MFA has more than 170 member firms, including traditional hedge funds, credit funds, and crossover funds, that collectively manage nearly $2.2 trillion across a diverse group of investment strategies. Member firms help pension plans, university endowments, charitable foundations, and other institutional investors to diversify their investments, manage risk, and generate attractive returns over time.

Position Summary: The Deputy COO will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and other teams to support the day-to-day operations of the Association.

Essential Responsibilities: The Deputy COO will report to the Chief Operating Officer and will perform the following responsibilities:

  • Provide support for the core operating functions of the Association and the team’s leading these areas including Information Technology, People & Culture (HR), financial management and organizational planning.
  • Work with MFA’s corporate counsel on a variety of matters including organizational governance, contract negotiation and counterparty relations.
  • Perform office space management and planning across our four office locations, including working with building management/owners, vendors and service providers.
  • Provide support for all elements of an office relocation, including planning, space design and buildout.
  • Assist various MFA teams across multiple functional areas in driving their key initiatives and projects.
  • Support MFA corporate development efforts including design, business planning and implementation.
  • Support MFA’s efforts/objectives to enhance and leverage our client data capture, management, and reporting capabilities.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in supporting operations related areas.
  • Excellent analytical, written and presentation skills; intermediate/advanced level competency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint applications
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented culture that values the importance of being a good teammate, communicator, and partner to the firm’s members.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate, self-start, think ahead, problem solve, and engage proactively.
  • Ability to excel under pressure and is confident handling last-minute details and changes.
