We began 2014 with historic highs in many world equity markets. All it took was $10 trillion of quantitative easing by the world’s central banks. In 2013 developed markets responded with GDP up, systemic risk down, and multiples expanding, causing equities to go up, bonds to go down, and risk assets to do well. Emerging markets in large part did not share in the euphoria driven by earnings concerns, currency weakness, current account challenges and inflation.
