Yesterday, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) swore in Michael Piwowar as the newest member of the commission to round out the five-member panel. Commissioner Piwowar replaces former Commissioner Troy Paredes, who stepped down earlier this month.
According to Reuters, Commissioner Piwowar’s swearing-in ceremony took place in Los Angeles. Commissioner Piwowar most recently worked for the Senate Banking Committee under Ranking Member Mike Crapo (R-ID). “He also worked at the SEC previously as a visiting scholar and senior financial economist,” Reuters noted.
President Obama nominated Piwowar and fellow Commissioner Kara Stein earlier this year. They were both confirmed by the full Senate on August 1. Commissioner Stein was sworn into office last week, replacing former Commissioner Elisse Walter.
