Using Cognitive Neuroscience to Improve Manager Selection in Today’s Volatile Markets: How to Out-Think Your Brain
Recent market turmoil has emphasized the importance of proper hedge fund selection, and raised the risk of making the wrong decisions. But why is it so hard to find funds that perform effectively once chosen? Why is it so difficult to outperform industry averages? Through the use of videos, graphics and the latest academic research, the first half of this talk will investigate how the hard-wiring of the human brain creates cognitive biases that can lead us to make incorrect decisions, and how to avoid falling prey to these biases. Have these biases among investors led to increased risk and reduced diversification in hedge fund portfolios? The second half of the talk will discuss alarming trends in hedge fund performance and correlation, and how fund investors can reduce risk and choose managers effectively in a newly volatile world.
Keynote Speaker: Roy Niederhoffer, R.G. Niederhoffer Capital Management, Inc.
