Salem Abraham
Salem Abraham is the president and owner of Abraham Trading Company (ATC). Since 1988, Abraham Trading Company has offered professional money management by trading futures markets around the world. ATC’s highly diversified portfolio, which consists of 50% physical commodity markets, combined with Salem’s long-term experience has resulted in a 19-year, 11-month annualized ROR of 22%. Mr. Abraham attended The University of Notre Dame from August 1984 until December 1987, graduating cum laude with a B.B.A. degree in finance. His interest in futures trading began in college, and it was during the spring and summer of 1987 that he began to develop his systematic trading strategies. Mr. Abraham sits on the investment committee for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and The Amarillo Area Foundation.
J.P. Bruynes
J.P. Bruynes is a partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP and has broad corporate experience that includes representation of domestic and offshore hedge funds and hedge fund managers in all aspects of their business. Mr. Bruynes represents clients with respect to investments in securities, commodities, futures contracts, forward contracts, options, swap transactions, other derivatives and other investments. He also advises hedge fund managers, investment advisers, commodity trading advisors, commodity pool operators and third-party marketers with respect to compliance with all applicable laws and has experience representing clients with respect to exchange, self-regulatory and governmental audits and investigations. His experience includes active participation in all phases of structuring, negotiating and documenting transactions and agreements. Prior to joining Akin Gump, Mr. Bruynes was a partner at Arnold & Porter in New York.
Mr. Bruynes received his B.A. with honors in 1987 from Trinity College and his J.D. in 1990 from the Vanderbilt University Law School. He is a member of the New York Bar and currently serves as a member of the New York City Bar Association’s Committee on Futures and Derivatives Regulation and its CPO/CTA sub-committee.

Norman B. Champ III
Norman B. Champ III is the executive vice president and general counsel of Chilton Investment Company, an investment adviser to long/short equity and debt hedge funds and managed accounts with more than $7 billion in assets headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut with offices in New York, San Francisco, London and Hong Kong. Mr. Champ is a lecturer on law at Harvard Law School (Winter 2008) and has been a speaker on hedge fund topics at programs for the Practicing Law Institute, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the International Bar Association. Prior to joining Chilton in 1999, Mr. Champ was with the law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell. From 1990 to 1992, Mr. Champ clerked for the Honorable Charles S. Haight, Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Mr. Champ is a member of the board of directors of the Managed Funds Association, an alternative investment industry trade group. Mr. Champ has an A.B. in history from Princeton University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. He was a Fulbright Scholar at King’s College London where he received his M.A. in war studies.
Susanne V. Clark
Susanne Clark is general counsel, managing director and chief compliance officer of Basso Capital Management, L.P., with primary responsibility and oversight for legal and regulatory matters involving Basso and the Basso funds. Previously, Ms. Clark was deputy general counsel at Amaranth Group Inc., where she was responsible for a variety of legal matters, including those relating to fund governance, marketing and investing and trading activities. Prior to that, she was vice president and assistant general counsel at Goldman, Sachs & Co. where she was responsible for finance and corporate legal matters involving The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. and, prior to that, for legal matters involving the investment banking business of Goldman, Sachs & Co. Ms. Clark began her career in the New York office of Shearman & Sterling as an associate in the Corporate Finance Group. Ms. Clark received a B.A. from Swarthmore College and J.D. from Columbia University.
Michael W. Covel
Michael Covel has been consulting to individual investors and traders, hedge funds and banks since 1997. His first book was the best selling Trend Following: How Great Traders Make Millions in Up or Down Markets (Prentice Hall, May 2004 and Nov 2005). The book profiles great trend followers who have won millions if not billions in the market. Trend Following is currently available in German, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and French translations with Russian and Arabic in the works.
Mr. Covel’s second book The Complete TurtleTrader: The Legend, the Lessons, the Results (Collins, October 2007) is the definitive inside look at the legendary trader Richard Dennis and his student traders “The Turtles”.

Craig Donohue
Craig S. Donohue has served as Chief Executive Officer of CME Group since July 2007, when CME and CBOT merged to become the world’s largest and most diverse exchange. Previously, he served as Chief Executive Officer of CME Holdings Inc. and of CME.
Donohue played a leading role in the company’s historic merger. He also was instrumental in CME’s demutualization and initial public offering which, in December 2002, made CME the first publicly traded financial exchange in the United States.
In addition, Donohue has contributed significantly to setting the organization’s vision and developing growth strategies to expand CME’s core business and global distribution. He was CME’s lead negotiator for technology and product alliances with the world’s leading exchanges and financial organizations, including the New York Mercantile Exchange, the Singapore Derivatives Exchange Ltd., Standard & Poor’s Corporation and The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. He was also instrumental in creating CME’s historic clearing agreement with the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) and in developing OneChicago LLC, CME’s single stock futures joint venture with CBOT and the Chicago Board Options Exchange, and FXMarketSpace, CME’s joint venture with Reuters that created the world’s first all-electronic platform serving the $2 trillion per day over-the-counter foreign exchange market.
Before joining CME as an attorney in 1989, Donohue was associated with the Chicago law firm of McBride, Baker & Coles. Donohue was named CME’s Vice President and Associate General Counsel in 1995, Vice President of Market Regulation in 1997, and Senior Vice President and General Counsel in 1998. He was appointed to CME’s management team as Managing Director, Business Development and Corporate/Legal Affairs in 2000. Donohue was named Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer of CME in April 2001 and assumed the same role with the holding company upon its formation in August 2001. He served as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, Office of the CEO, from October 2002 to December 2003 before being named Chief Executive Officer on January 1, 2004.
In addition to serving on CME’s board of directors, Donohue is a director of FXMarketSpace.Donohue, who is active in civic and philanthropic causes, is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Council on Economic Education, a nonprofit organization that focuses on improving the economic literacy of students and teachers. He also is a Board Member of the Executives’ Club of Chicago and the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s global markets advisory committee and Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook’s advisory council. He also is a Trustee of the CME Trust, whose mission is to enhance economic opportunity, health and education, especially for disadvantaged youth.
The author of numerous articles in the business and financial press, Donohue also is a noted speaker on issues of importance to the financial services industry, including regulatory issues. He holds an M.B.A. degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management, a J.D. degree from John Marshall Law School, a M.L. degree in financial services regulation from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law and a B.A. degree in political science and history from Drake University. He has been recognized as one of the top 100 Irish Business Leaders by Irish American Magazine every year since 2003.

Kate Dressel
Kate Dressel, CRCP, is president of Strategic Compliance Solutions, LLC, (SCS) a consulting firm based in Connecticut, assists alternative investment firms with regulatory compliance and operational issues. Prior to forming SCS in 2003, Ms. Dressel spent over ten years at ARA Portfolio Management Company, LLC, a commodity trading advisor, commodity pool operator, registered investment advisor and hedge fund with maximum assets under management of approximately $625 million. As vice president of client services and compliance, Ms. Dressel had complete responsibility for those areas of firm operations. Ms. Dressel earned the CRCP designation upon completing the NASD / Wharton School of Business Certified Regulatory Compliance Professional program. She is active in Managed Funds Association, and has served on committees and in the mentoring program. Ms. Dressel is a member of Managed Funds Association, National Society of Compliance Professionals and 100 Women in Hedge Funds.
Marcy Engel
Marcy Engel is chief operating officer and general counsel of Eton Park Capital Management, L.P., a global alternatives investment firm. In that role she is responsible for all of the non-investment related areas of the firm, including finance, operations, risk, treasury, technology, investor relations, legal and compliance, and human resources. Prior to joining Eton Park, Ms. Engel spent 18 years at Citigroup and its predecessor firms, Salomon Smith Barney and Salomon Brothers Inc. in two main roles: as a senior member of the Legal Department from 1987 to 2003, and as head of planning and operating risk for the Fixed Income Division. Ms. Engel was general counsel of Salomon Smith Barney and managing deputy general counsel of Citigroup’s Global Corporate and Investment Bank from 2001 until 2003, where she was responsible for all legal matters for capital market activities. In the Fixed Income Division, she was responsible for assessing operational risks and implementing appropriate policies and controls. Prior to joining Salomon Brothers, Ms. Engel was an associate in the Litigation Department of Sullivan & Cromwell.
Ms. Engel graduated from the University of Michigan with distinction with a BA in economics and from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, for which she currently serves as a member of the Board of Overseers.
David E. Franasiak
David Franasiak became a principal of Williams & Jensen in 1992. As vice president of finance and a member of the Executive Committee since 1993, he is responsible for the day-to-day financial management of the firm, pension plans, and outside legal entities. Mr. Franasiak specializes in a legislative and administrative practice focused on tax, securities, financial institutions, natural resources, and environmental issues. Mr. Franasiak has over twenty-five years of experience working on public policy issues with corporate executives, not-for-profit organizations, accounting firms, broker dealers, financial institutions, and associations.
Prior to joining Williams & Jensen, he was a principal in the Office of the Chairman at Ernst & Young, working on tax, securities, and financial institution issues. From 1984 to 1987, he worked for British Petroleum on tax, finance, environment, and energy issues, and was director of tax at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce from 1981 to1984. Previous to this position, he served as staff director to the Tax Oversight Subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives Small Business Committee. Early in his career, Mr. Franasiak worked on the legislative staffs of a city and county legislature, and worked as a venture analyst for a large multinational corporation while completing his graduate work.
In addition to serving Williams & Jensen clients, Mr. Franasiak is involved in volunteering and fundraising related to Maryland state politics, as well as many church and civic organizations in Annapolis, Maryland. Mr. Franasiak received his B.A. in 1973 from State University of New York, College at Buffalo, his M.B.A. and J.D. in 1978 from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
John G. Gaine
John G. Gaine has been president of Managed Funds Association (MFA) since 1997. MFA, headquartered in Washington, D.C., is the only U.S.-based membership organization that represents the interests of managed funds professionals internationally. MFA promotes a beneficial regulatory environment, improved public relations, growth of the managed funds industry, and increased member and investor knowledge. Prior to becoming MFA’s president, from 1993 to 1997, Mr. Gaine was MFA’s director of government relations and general counsel.
From 1981 to1993, Mr. Gaine worked in private practice specializing in commodities and related areas, and, from 1977 to 1981, he was the General Counsel for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Mr. Gaine received his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 1964, and his LL.B. from Harvard University in 1967. He is admitted both to the Washington, D.C. bar and the New York bar.
Tony Gannon
Tony Gannon is CEO and the majority shareholder of Abbey Capital Limited, which he founded in May 2000. Abbey Capital is a multi-manager investment house based in Dublin Ireland, specializing in managed futures and currency portfolios. It provides portfolio construction and risk management services for private banks, pension funds and family offices in the U.S. and Europe. The company currently allocates in excess of $1.3 billion to the CTA sector.
Mr. Gannon has extensive experience in the managed futures and foreign exchange investment industry. In 1988, he joined Gandon Securities, one of the first European managed futures investment managers and created and traded Gandon’s breakout trading program. In 1993, Mr. Gannon and three colleagues left to found Allied Irish Capital Management (AICM), in conjunction with AIB, Ireland’s largest bank. AICM operated, in effect, as an internal multi-manager, with assets allocated to Mr. Gannon and several other traders and systems. During his tenure as a founder shareholder and one of the key principals at AICM, the company became the largest CTA in Europe and one of the top ten worldwide with funds under management growing from $50 million to over $1.2 billion.
In May 2000, Mr. Gannon left AICM to found Abbey Capital with the intention of creating a leading multi-manager investment house dedicated to delivering superior risk-adjusted investment returns to clients at competitive fee levels.
Michael Garvey
Michael Garvey is a vice president of J.P. Morgan Alternative Asset Management (JPMAAM) and senior operations manager. Mr. Garvey is responsible for the fund administration activities of all J.P. Morgan Alternative Asset Management’s products as well as the operational due diligence on all hedge fund managers in our complex. Prior to joining JPMAAM in May 2000, Mr. Garvey was the operations manager of SAC Capital from 1993 to 2000. He also worked as a manager for cash accounting at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter from 1986 to 1992. Mr. Garvey received a B.S. in finance from Baruch College.
Jay B. Gould
Jay Gould practices in the Corporate & Securities area and is co-leader of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman’s Investment Funds & Investment Management Practice Team. He counsels clients involved in all aspects of the financial services industry. Mr. Gould represents U.S. registered investment companies, hedge funds, offshore investment companies, investment advisers, retail and institutional broker-dealers, and municipal bond underwriters. Mr. Gould has extensive experience in drafting private placement memoranda, partnership and limited liability company agreements, subscription agreements, registration statements, proxy statements, periodic reports, no-action letters, applications for exemptive relief and other documents for filing with the SEC, the NASD, and other regulatory agencies.
Mr. Gould advises investment companies, investment advisers and broker-dealers on mergers and acquisitions. He also provides counsel on matters involving corporate governance and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance; mortgage securitizations and sales; collateralized debt offers; joint ventures and strategic relations; and retail, institutional and offshore securities distribution strategies and regulatory considerations.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Gould served as chief counsel for E*TRADE Global Asset Management, Inc., vice president with TransAmerica Life Companies, senior counsel to Bank of America NT&SA, and as an attorney with the Securities and Exchange Commission, White & Case LLP, and two other major international law firms. He has a B.A. from the University of Washington and a J.D. from the Catholic University of America.
Von Hughes
Von Hughes is a managing director responsible for overseeing the firm’s client service and marketing efforts. In addition, Mr. Hughes also has portfolio construction and investment management responsibilities for select institutional investors. He is a member of the Investment Management and Account Management Committees. Prior to joining PAAMCO, Mr. Hughes was a managing director at Utendahl Capital Partners, L.P., where he developed and managed the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions Group, and ran the firm’s client service and marketing. He began his career as an associate in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group and later as a vice president in the Equity Capital Markets Group, both at Goldman, Sachs & Co. (New York). Mr. Hughes graduated from Yale University with a B.A. cum laude in philosophy, received his J.D. from Harvard Law School (where he was an editor on the Harvard Law Review), and received his M.P.P. from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Mr. Hughes has ten years of experience in investment banking and asset management with institutional investors. He is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst.
Cary M. Klivan
Cary Klivan is Managing Director of Amber Partners (USA), Inc. Prior to joining Amber, Mr. Klivan was Head of HSBC Securities Services, Bermuda – a division with approximately 200 staff performing full service fund administration and custody services for hedge funds, fund of hedge funds, private equity funds and institutional clients. He previously held the position of Director of Client Services for the Alternative Fund Services Division of the Bank of Bermuda (New York) Limited (now part of HSBC Securities Services) from October 1998 up until end August 2004. In this capacity, Mr. Klivan was responsible for the administration operations of over 100 staff performing accounting and valuation, registrar and transfer agency and custody servicing to the alternative funds sector. Cary is a CPA with over 20 years experience in the investment company industry. He began his career with Price Waterhouse and worked five years there as an Investment Company Industry Specialist in their Audit Department. He then joined Goldman Sachs as a Financial Analyst in their Asset Management Division. Just prior to joining the Bank of Bermuda, Cary worked for Chase Manhattan Bank where he has held a couple of key positions in their Unit Investment Trust Department: first as Manager of their Fixed Income Operations and, later, as their Risk Management Officer.
Richard Marshall
Richard Marshall is a partner in the Investment Management and Securities Litigation groups of Ropes & Gray, LLP. Since entering private practice, Mr. Marshall has conducted compliance reviews and provided compliance counseling for investment companies, investment advisers, hedge funds, and broker-dealers; represented individuals and regulated entities in inspections, investigations, and litigation against the Securities and Exchange Commission, self-regulatory organizations, state securities regulators, and U.S. Attorney's offices; created hedge funds; provided advice on the creation of new products for investment companies, investment advisers, hedge funds, and broker-dealers; and counseled investment companies, investment advisers, hedge funds, and broker-dealers on regulatory matters. Before joining Ropes & Gray, Mr. Marshall was senior associate regional administrator in the New York office of the Securities and Exchange Commission. In that position, he supervised a staff of seventy that conducted inspections of investment companies and advisers in the New York region, and oversaw enforcement matters related to those entities. Mr. Marshall has also been a branch chief in the Division of Enforcement of the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. Mr. Marshall received his B.A. from Yale University, his M.A. from the University of Toronto and his J.D. from The University of Chicago Law School.
David M. Matteson
David Matteson is a partner and member of the Investment Management Practice Group in the Chicago office of Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP. For more than 20 years, Mr. Matteson has concentrated his practice in the area of private investment management, with an emphasis on derivatives. He has represented hedge funds, commodity pool operators (CPOs), commodity trading advisors (CTAs), investment advisers and offshore and onshore funds. Mr. Matteson has advised clients as to the various structures and strategies with respect to the formation of funds and their management companies, SEC and CFTC regulatory issues, offering memoranda, marketing materials and appropriate investment agreements and terms of specific investment funds. Prior to joining the firm, he was a general counsel olf a hedge fund manager. Mr. Matteson was recently named one of the Best Lawyers in America® for his hedge fund investment/management practice. He graduated from Occidental College with a B.A. in 1974, and from Loyola University of Chicago, with a J.D. in 1977.
Gregory Mocek
Gregory Mocek is the director of enforcement at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission in Washington, D.C. Mr. Mocek was appointed to that position in March of 2002, and oversees attorneys and investigators in Washington, New York, Kansas City, and Chicago. Mr. Mocek is responsible for managing the Commission’s investigations and enforcement litigation in the United States. His division’s portfolio routinely involves activity in a broad spectrum of markets such as energy, currency trading, financial futures contracts, agriculture and metals.
The CFTC’s Division of Enforcement is the premiere commodity and derivatives law enforcement team in the world. Mr. Mocek strategically guides this team in their search for illegal conduct in diversified market areas, including attempted manipulation, manipulation, market squeezes and corners, front running, false reporting, hedge fund fraud, foreign currency fraud, brokerage compliance and supervisory violations, non-competitive trading, trade practice misconduct, and registration issues.
As the nation’s top enforcer in the commodity markets, Mr. Mocek is leading the Division of Enforcement as they currently investigate and litigate with approximately 1,000 individuals and corporations. Working closely with the President’s Corporate Fraud Task Force, Mr. Mocek’s team of skilled white-collar professionals prosecute cases that involve complex OTC, physical, and on-exchange transactions. Under his guidance during the past five years, his division filed hundreds of new cases in federal courts around the country and obtained awards of approximately $2 billion dollars. Mr. Mocek’s division also routinely assists in related criminal prosecutions by domestic and international law enforcement bodies. Since his appointment, Mr. Mocek and his team assisted state and federal prosecutors in the criminal prosecution of over 170 individuals and corporate entities.
Michael C. Neus
Michael Neus is general counsel at Perry Capital, L.L.C. and is responsible for all legal and compliance matters. Prior to joining Perry Capital in 2005, Mr. Neus was the chief operating officer and general counsel at RHG Capital, L.P., chief general counsel at Andor Capital Management, L.L.C., and general counsel of Soros Private Funds Management LLC and deputy general counsel of Soros Fund Management LLC. Mr. Neus began his professional career as an associate at Coudert Brothers in Singapore and New York. Mr. Neus is a frequent lecturer on hedge fund topics and testified at the Securities and Exchange Commission's Hedge Fund Roundtable in 2003. He received his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and his law degree from Columbia University School of Law.
Roy Niederhoffer
Roy Niederhoffer, after working for another hedge fund for five years, founded R. G. Niederhoffer Capital Management, Inc. (RGNCM), in 1993. Since then, RGNCM has employed a high-frequency, quantitative, behavioral finance-based strategy to trade equities, fixed income, foreign exchange and commodities to provide returns that are both valuable on a stand-alone basis and also negatively-correlated to its clients’ portfolios. Located in New York City, the fund currently employs 30 professionals. Mr. Niederhoffer also serves on the board of several arts organizations. Mr. Niederhoffer is an avid classical and jazz pianist, and plays violin in the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony. Mr. Niederhoffer graduated from Harvard in 1987 with magna cum laude degree in computational neuroscience.
Anthony L. Perricone
Anthony (Tony) Perricone is a partner and a member of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP’s Corporate Practice and chair of the Fund Services Group, advising clients on all aspects of the investment management sector from initial fund formation, organizational structuring, and regulatory compliance, through complex restructurings and transactional representation. Mr. Perricone has advised prominent hedge funds, including traditional long/short equity, technology, healthcare, and arbitrage funds, on a range of issues in the alternative asset management area. Mr. Perricone also has significant experience advising real estate funds on formation and transactional matters. He has represented funds investing in various asset classes, funds making whole loans to investors and developers, funds trading in mortgage backed securities, and funds acquiring properties throughout the United States and Europe using Shari’ah compliant (Ijara) financing structures. Prior to joining Sonnenschein, Mr. Perricone was with the Finance and Real Estate Group at Dechert, LLP. He spent the first five years of his practice in the Investment Management Group at Schulte Roth & Zabel before moving his practice to King & Spalding. Mr. Perricone is also a former CPA and mergers and acquisitions consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York and with the International Maritime Group in Geneva, Switzerland. He has taught several courses in mergers and acquisitions and financial management at New York University and Pace University. Mr. Perricone received is B.A. from Drexel University and his J.D. from George Washington University.
Todd E. Petzel
Todd E. Petzel joined Offit Capital Advisors in October, 2007 as its chief investment officer. Offit is a Registered Investment Advisor with approximately $5 billion under advisement. Mr. Petzel has been involved with manager selection and risk management of diversified portfolios as the CIO of Commonfund (1996-2002) and Azimuth Asset Management (2003-2007). Prior to that, he worked in the futures industry and has taught economics and finance at the University of Chicago, Stanford University and Macalester College. Mr. Petzel holds a Ph.D., M.A. and B.A., with honors, in economics from the University of Chicago.
Russell Read
Russell Read is the chief investment officer for the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS). He oversees all asset classes in which CalPERS invests, including domestic and international equity, Treasury and agency debt, high yield bonds, mortgage backed securities, CDOs, real estate, corporate governance, currency overlay, securities lending, venture capital, leveraged buyouts and hedge funds. Mr. Read is responsible for the strategic plan for CalPERS’ Investment Office including tactical asset allocation, risk management, business development, budget authority, new investment programs, trading technology, staffing and back office operations.
Mr. Read joined CalPERS on June 1, 2006 after previously serving as deputy chief investment officer for Deutsche Asset Management and Scudder Investments. He was responsible for more than $250 billion of retail and institutional investments in equity, fixed income and commodity-based products. He also was chairman of the Deutsche’s Americas Investment Committee and principal investment representative to the firm’s retail mutual fund board of trustees. He previously served as global head of quantitative investing and research at Zurich Scudder and has held senior investment positions with the OppenhiemerFunds, CNA Insurance, Prudential Insurance,and First Chicago.
Early in his career, Mr. Read was an actuary at CNA Insurance. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Financial Consultant and a Chartered Life Underwriter. Mr. Read has served as the socio-economic advisor for the Forest BioProducts Research Project at the University of Maine and as Chair of the Finance Committee for Maine’s Fractionation Development Center, which is dedicated to the transformation of wood into energy and materials currently provided by crude oil. Mr. Read held academic positions at the University of Maine and Stanford University, and has taught courses in financial risk management and statistical methodology. He holds a Bachelor’s in economic statistics, a Master’s in economics, and a Master’s in political science, both from Stanford University, a Master’s in business administration in finance and international business from the University of Chicago, and a Doctorate in political economy from Stanford University.
Paul N. Roth is a founding partner of Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP. He heads the firm's private investment funds' practice, an area in which he has 40 years of experience and which involves over 90 attorneys and approximately 1500 hedge funds, private equity funds and offshore funds. In addition, his practice focuses primarily on investment advisers and broker/dealers, cross-border acquisitions to the United States, securities regulation, mergers and acquisitions and financial transactions.
Mr. Roth chairs the Subcommittee on Private Investment Entities of the American Bar Association's Committee on Federal Securities Regulation, and was formerly chair of the Committee on Securities Regulation of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and member of the NASD's Legal Advisory Board. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Center on Lawyers and the Professional Services Industry at Harvard Law School, member of the Task Force on the Undergraduate Experience at Harvard University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences and member of the Citizens Committee for New York City and of the National Board of Directors of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. He is past President and member of the Board of the Harvard Law School Alumni Association of New York City.
A magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Harvard College, Mr. Roth graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School and received a Fulbright Fellowship for Study of Law in The Netherlands during 1964-65. He is listed in the International WhoWho'sLegal, Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers.
A frequent lecturer, Mr. Roth has spoken at numerous conferences including those sponsored by SIFMA, Institutional Investor, Managed Funds Association, MAR/Hedge, Practising Law Institute, West LegalWorks, the American Bar Association, the International Bar Association, Bank of America, Citibank, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. He is also a frequent contributor of articles on hedge funds.
Karan SampsonKaran Sampson is the director, hedge funds, at Greenwich Associates, where she leads the relationship management effort to broaden hedge fund participation in their financial services research studies. Ms. Sampson’s responsibilities include identifying key trends in hedge fund activity and designing solutions for business issues. She has worked in the hedge fund arena since 1993, and she is currently on the board of directors of the Connecticut Hedge Fund Association. Prior to joining Greenwich Associates, Ms. Sampson was an independent consultant, raising assets for hedge funds and developing business and marketing plans for hedge funds and private equity funds. She was employed by The Peabody Group and Perkins Fund Marketing raising capital for emerging managers from 1997 to 2001. In 1993, she started at TASS Management, Inc., running the New York subsidiary of the independent British firm that created the first electronic database of hedge funds. She originally worked on Wall Street for several foreign banks, including National Westminster and Bank of Montreal, as a proprietary trader and advisor to central banks. She has a B.S from Georgetown University.
Kevin Shannon
Mr. Shannon is an Executive Vice President of Moore Capital Management, LLC “Moore” and previously was Moore’s Chief Financial Officer for a twelve year period ending December 2006. In his current capacity he assists senior management on many of Moore’s strategic initiatives and external relationships.
Mr. Shannon is currently on the Board of Directors of the Managed Funds Association and sits on the Association’s Executive Committee. The Managed Funds Association is the premiere trade association for the alternative investment industry and as such has been engaged in constructive dialogue with policymakers in Washington, DC promoting a greater understanding of the hedge fund industry.
Prior to joining Moore Capital Management, LLC in October 1994, Kevin was Chief Financial Officer of Argonaut Capital Management Corporation as well as Managing Director and Limited Partner. Prior to Argonaut, Mr. Shannon was associated with Lehman Brothers where he was Senior Vice President and the Chief Financial Officer of Lehman’s derivative products subsidiary from 1990 - 1993 and Director of Firm Trading Accounting and Controls from 1984 - 1990. He was also a Senior Audit Manager in the Financial Services Sector of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. from 1977 – 1984 and served two-year tenure as a part time adjunct lecturer at Baruch College, City University of New York, Department of Accounting from 1985 – 1987.
Mr. Shannon received his BS degree Magna Cum Laude from New York University and an MBA degree summa cum laude from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Kevin Shannon is currently on the Board of Directors for Hedge Funds Care, a charity focused on assisting abused children. Mr. Shannon resides in Saddle River, New Jersey with his wife and three children.
Michael E. Singer
Michael Singer is co-president of Ivy Asset Management. In this capacity, Mr. Singer is responsible for establishing Ivy’s strategic plan and managing the firm’s business. Prior to joining Ivy in 2004, Mr. Singer spent nine years with Weiss, Peck & Greer, an 18B AuM alternative and traditional asset manager, where he served as a senior managing director and executive committee member. He began his career as a CPA with Coopers & Lybrand. Mr. Singer received a B.S. in accounting with Honors from the Pennsylvania State University and was awarded a J.D. from the Emory University School of Law.
Kenneth S. Springer
Kenneth Springer, a certified fraud examiner, is president and founder of Corporate Resolutions Inc (CRI). A former special agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Mr. Springer has conducted business-related investigations and intelligence gathering for over 30 years. He is a recognized expert on state of the art data retrieval technology. Prior to founding CRI in 1991, Mr. Springer was president of Bishops Services, an investigative firm in New York City.
Mr. Springer is an active member of the society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigations, The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, The Securities Industry Association-Compliance & Legal Division, the Association for Corporate Growth, the Association for Independent Private Sector Inspectors General (IPSIG), Turnaround Management Association, The American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), Managed Funds Association and numerous international investigative associations. He is also a frequent speaker and lecturer on due diligence and corporate investigations topics pertaining to hedge funds and the private equity community, underwriters, lenders and others. Mr. Springer is a 1975 graduate of Siena College with a B.S. in finance.
Marshall Terry
Marshall Terry is the head of derivatives operations at Sandelman Partners, LP. In this role he is responsible for master agreement negotiations, derivative portfolio reconciliation, trade affirmation, collateral and derivatives documentation. Mr. Terry has been with Sandelman since July 2007. Previously, Mr. Terry was with Moore Capital Management, LLC, where he served as the director of derivative operations and legal counsel focusing on derivative and operational issues. Prior to joining Moore Capital Management, LLC, Mr. Terry worked in the legal and operations departments of HypoVereinsbank, Citibank, N.A. and Bankers Trust. Mr. Terry graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.A. in economics and received a law degree from Boston University. Mr. Terry is a member of the New York State Bar Association.
James F. Tomeo
Jim Tomeo is chief operating officer and senior portfolio manager at SSARIS Advisors, an affiliate of State Street Corporation and State Street Global Advisors (SSgA). SSARIS is responsible for managing hedge fund of funds for State Street’s institutional clientele. Mr. Tomeo is a member of the firm’s fund of funds investment committee and heads its advisory services group. He works closely with State Street’s Global Risk Solutions team delivering hedge fund and risk management solutions to global investors.
Mr. Tomeo is a member of the MFA’s Fund of Funds Action Committee (FOFAC) and is the former chairman of the MFA International Committee. He is a member of the Center for International Securities and Derivatives Markets (CISDM) and is the U.S. representative to the Education and Research Committee of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA), based in Europe. Before joining SSARIS, Mr. Tomeo worked for RXR Capital Management, Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette, and the LTV Corporation in New York. Mr. Tomeo graduated from Bucknell University with a B.S. in business administration, the University of Hartford with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, and the Institute of International Studies and Training (Japanese business study program). He studied international finance and capital markets at New York University.
John R. Torell, IV
John Torell is chief financial officer of Tudor Investment Corporation. Mr. Torell joined Tudor in May 1994 and currently serves on Tudor’s board of directors and its management committee. Previously, Mr. Torell was with CS First Boston Corporation as vice president in the Corporate Credit Department. Mr. Torell holds a B.A. from Princeton University and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
Paul Wigdor
Paul Wigdor joined Superfund Asset Management in May 2006 as chief operating officer. Superfund is a pioneer in providing managed futures funds to the retail public in the United States. With more than 50,000 clients, and managing over $1.4 billion in assets, Superfund trades in more than 100 futures markets on exchanges around the world, striving to provide solid returns while offering portfolio diversification.
Mr. Wigdor has an active role in business and product development, and leads the firm‘s efforts to educate policy makers and thought leaders on managed futures and Superfund Asset Management business endeavors.
Prior to joining Superfund, Mr. Wigdor was a managing director at Pershing LLC with responsibility for that firm’s global equity trading franchise. Mr. Wigdor began his career as a lawyer at the Chicago Board Options Exchange and with Bear Stearns. He has a B.A. from Brandeis University and a J.D. from Fordham University’s School of Law.
Tracy Wills-Zapata
Tracy Wills-Zapata is a managing director of Campbell & Company, Inc. responsible for Campbell’s institutional clientele – primarily in the U.S. and Western Europe. Prior to joining Campbell in February 2006, Ms. Wills-Zapata was a managing director of DB Absolute Return Strategies where she was responsible for distribution of Deutsche Bank’s single manager hedge fund platform.
