this is shorthand for “weighted average life to maturity” which is calculated based on the average of the time remaining for the remaining principal payments on a debt obligation. In the case of most High Yield Bonds, this is easy since they do not have any Amortization requirements — it is simply the time remaining until the Maturity Date of the Bonds.
