Jones is credited for creating the basic Hedge Fund operating structure: (i) Leverage, (ii) Short positions as a Hedge against Long positions and (iii) the 20 percent Performance Fee. His “hedged fund,” A.W. Jones & Co., created in the late 1940s, was the most successful of its kind, and it spawned an entire industry. It is still around to today and now operates as a Fund of Funds.
