CFTC Commissioner Wetjen to Become Acting Chairman

Posted on December 17, 2013

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced that Commissioner Mark Wetjen will serve as acting chairman.  Commissioner Wetjen, a former adviser for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and a Commissioner of the CFTC since October 2011, will fill the position as acting chairman when current Chairman Gary Gensler leaves in the coming weeks.

Commissioner Bart Chilton has said he plans to step down from the CFTC soon, setting up the possibility that there will be three vacancies at the five-member CFTC next year.  “Mark will be a steady hand during this transition period,” said Commissioner Chilton in an e-mail to the Wall Street Journal.
