Outlook 2013 Session Focuses on EU Issues

Posted on October 18, 2013

MFA’s Outlook 2013 continued this morning with an open panel discussion that focused on issues in the European Union, focusing on elections, regulations, and their impact on the financial services industry.  Darcy Bradbury, Managing Director, the D.E. Shaw group, moderated the session.  Panelists included Roger Hollingsworth, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Government Relations, Managed Funds Association; Leonard Ng, Partner, Sidley Austin LLP; and, Torsten Slok, Managing Director, Chief International Economist, Deutsche Bank Securities, Inc.

Recent German elections and the impending EU Parliament and Commission elections will have a profound impact on efforts by policy makers to stabilize their financial system and strengthen the “single market” economy.  The panel of European political, legislative, and regulatory policy experts engaged in an in-depth analysis of the impact Europe’s evolving political dynamics will have on the future of financial regulation.  Discussion also revolved around the role of private capital, the global economy, and the alternative investment industry.

Outlook 2013 wraps up later this afternoon.  Thank you for following updates from the event.
